Mexico City’s Celebration

It was estimated on the local news that as many as SEVEN MILLION people came out to the Zocalo in Mexico City over the weekend to celebrate Dia de Muertos, or Day of the Dead.  That’s an amazing amount of people to fit into one city square.  Crowds stretched as far as the eye could see and streets were closed to traffic for several blocks in every direction.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people in one place at the same time, but in a city of 19 million I imagine a turn out of around seven million for a major celebration is not really all that unusual.
