Tiahuanaco

Tiahuanaco

Bolivia’s most significant archaelogical site, Tiahuanaco, is located 72km west of La Paz on the southern shore of Lake Titicaca.  The site consists of a number of megaliths, a ruined pyramid and the remains of a ritual platform.  Though far less impressive than many of the the ruins in Peru, Tiahuanaco is a pleasant day trip out of the city. The site can be reached by collectivo from La Paz and the scenery along the way is spectacular with views of snow-cappped mountains in the distance.
