San Carlos de Bariloche

Lago Nahuel Huapi

San Carlos de Bariloche’s setting on the shores of  Lago Nahuel Huapi, a glacial relic over 100km long, is gorgeous.  Situated within the limits of the Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, Bariloche is the Argentinian Lake District’s largest city and serves as the gateway to Patagonia.  Extending from Neuquén down through Esquel, the Lake District is full of exceptional natural wonders.  The clear turquoise blue waters of Lago Nahuel Huapi are backed by lofty mountain peaks and forest.  Bariloche is an outdoor lovers paradise with ample opportunities for hiking, biking, skiing, camping and cycling.  The lovely city center bustles with touristy chocolate shops, souvenir stores, outdoor craft markets, trendy boutiques, gourmet restaurants and fancy hotels.  Basic accommodations can be found a few blocks outside of the center and camp sites are located throughout the park.  As it turns out, we’re visiting at the perfect time of year, summer is just arriving but it’ll be another month or two before the tourism high season really kicks into gear.
